We got the early-morning call from the post office today just as I was heading out to catch a ferry… a chirping box to pick up! I’m still amazed every time chicks arrive in the mail – that they emerge seemingly unscathed, that the USPS handles them, everything about the process is crazy. I wanted so badly to go straight to pick them up, but had to wait all day until I got home from my day of work in Seattle to check in on the coop. They are chaotic little balls of fluff at the age of 2 days. Watching them scurry in circles or fall asleep in their food is adorable, but my favorite part is all the chirping. Involuntary smile, guaranteed.
(There are 25 baby chicks, all of which are destined for the freezer in two months’ time.)
